Goodman Br features jaunt Through the Woods
In Nathaniel Hawthornes short story tender Goodman Brown, he portrays how the faith of a man is weakened at a time he learns that each the people he once believed were unassailable Christians were, in fact, followers of the demigod.
Goodman Browns attitude starts to debate a turn when he discovers that Goody Cloyse, his father, grandfather, the minister, and Faith were all corrupted by the devil. All the people who had taught him all his Christian beliefs were evil and no longer signified the purity which he praised.
It is clear that Goodman Brown depends on the views of his relatives and loved ones to justify his own faith. In the beginning of the story, Goodman Brown believes that his father and grandfather were uncorrupted men of god and tells the devil, My father never went into the woods on such an errand, nor his father before him (p.555 Hawthorne) when he attempts to return adventure home. Until the devil informs his that he knew his father and grandfather as well.
I have been as well acquainted with your father as with ever a one among the Puritans (p.555 Hawthorne). The desire he has to be as pure and Christian as his forefathers were is tainted when the devil says this to him. Goodman Brown depended on Faiths purity to divine service him resist evil. Well; shes a blessed holy man on earth; and after this one night, Ill get to her skirts and follow her to heaven (p.554 Hawthorne). Once Goodman Brown sees Faith at the ceremony, the faith he has left disintegrates completely. My Faith is gone! there is no good on earth, and sin is but a name (p.558 Hawthorne).
