Many of these children grow up in homes and families struggling with poverty and parental mental health substance abuse problems. Those who care their health insurance can keep it, but millions of uninsurable Americans would gain meaningful access to health coverage and insurers would no longer be able to discriminate based on pre-existing conditions. Medicaid would be strengthened and other low-income individuals and small businesses uneffective to bear the burden alone would receive sliding musical scale subsidies to purchase needed health care.
