Healthy conference ECE355 Understanding Behavior and Family Dynamics Nancy Edwards May 28, 2012 Abstract When my grandp arnts were children they knew what boundries where and what exactly their parents expect of them because of the way my great grandparents communicated with them. There was never any scruple as to well what was to be done or if they had a problem they could talk about it. Unfortunately, today children do not book that in their lives. Often their biggest time of parley is with friends or teachers. Boundries are not set at home and a close deal more than not parents are too busy with their possess careers to even notice when their child extremitys to talk to them. Communication is the most important part of raising children. From the day they are conceived they can hear their parents voice and it should be the most comforting voice in their lives. In this paper I will look at the importance of communication between parents and children and how I use the Active Parenting technique with my children at home and in my teaching. Healthy Communication In the book Parenting in Contemporary Society, it states that to produce socially liable children we must have democratic relationships that are based on mutual respect, ensuring that the child is treated with both firmness and kindness. This must include encouragement that communicates love, respect, support and shows the child that we value them as a person ( Hammer & Turner 2012).
