Title: Making Strategies and Self-Talk Visible: Writing tuition in Regular and Special Education Classrooms
Abstract: This field of battle focuses on expositive writing intervention with one-quarter and 5th grade students. The purpose of this study is to determine if the use of bet alouds and modeling of writing structures on students abilities to write deuce expository texts: compare/contrast and explanation.

Methods for selection of participants: Teachers were chosen who had at least two years of teaching experience and who had an interest in up writing and reading instruction. The students from these teachers classrooms were included in the study. Classrooms were divided into observational and control groups. Within each classroom, students are divided into iii groups: high achieving (HA), low achieving (LA), and learning disabled (LD). Students who scored at or above the 56th percentile on the Stanford Achievement Test were identify as HA. LA students scored at or below thirty-ninth percentile on the Stanford Achievement test. LD was identified by secern and local guidelines or criteria.
Assessments: Four types of judicial decisions were used: 1) metagcognitive knowledge, 2) writing assessment of compare/contrast and explanation, 3) expert paper, 4) comprehension assessment
Identification of Consumers: 183 fourth and fifth grade students from 12 students; 128 from regular education students with 67+33 in the experimental group and 61+22 in the control group. Experimental group (N=100) with 36 HA, 31 LA, and 33LD. The control group (N=83) included 31 HA, 21 LA, and 22 LD.
