1.What is your name?
Hola! My name is Alvar Núñez Cabeza De Vaca. My family were originally peasants and they called themselves Alhaja until after the troth of Las Navas de Tolosa on July 11 of 1212, when they were ennoble for service that contributed to an important supremacy against the Moors. One of the Alhajas informed the Christians of a mountains pass by which the sic of the Arabs could be turned, and indicated the entrance by placing the skull of a cow nest it. Since then our last name was change to Cabeza de Vaca.
2.Where were you born and when?
I was born into a distinguished family in Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, Spain. My dates of birth and death are uncertain but it is estimated that I was born in 1490 and die on 1557.
3.What was your social and frugal status throughout your life?
My families were peasant but we were devoted a name and a finish of Arm by the King when my ancestors helped the army defeat the Moors. When I travel to the States I lived as a slave and went through poverty.
4.Do you have a formal education, and if yes where?
I was well improve as a benefit of my status. I was taught several languages, physics, geometry, mathematics, cartography, and astronomy.



In 1511 I joined the Spanish army and severed to Italy and Navarre. I n 1517 I joined the Florida expedition of Panfilo de Narvaez as a treasurer and chief constable.


5.Do you have any famous family members, and if yes, what did they do?
Yes, my mother ancestors were very famous they were the superstars who gave us the Coat of arms and our last name. They called themselves Alhaja. My parental grandfather was Pedro de Vera. He was one of the conquerors and governor of the Canary Islands assigned by the Catholic Kings (1480-1489). He die in Jerez in 1498. He was married with Beatriz de Hinojosa.
