The Lottery

Within ein truthone, there is a desire to belong, whether it is dormant or active, the need to belong is an aspect of life that cannot be controlled. sometimes however, the desire to belong overrides morals and values already instilled into society. Jackson uses irony and frivolity to suggest an underlying evil, hypocrisy, and weakness of human kind.    The story takes value in a small village, where the people are scrawny and customs duty is of the ut roughly importance. A yearly event, called the lottery, is one in which one person in the town is randomly chosen, by a drafting, to be violently stoned by friends and family. The drawing has been around over seventy-seven years and is practiced by every member of the town. The idea is so surreal and is most evident through Jacksons tone. Her use of friendly lyric as the villagers gather and the presentation of the lottery are identical to a festival.
