Juan Laya,who used to write in english turned to filipino because of the strict prohibitions of the japanese regarding any writing in english. This weekly Liwayway was placed low strict surveillance until it was managed by a japanese named Ishiwara. In other words, Filipino literature was given a reveal during this period.

Many wrote plays,poems,shorts stories,etc. Topics and theme were often about life in the provinces. But in the rebirth of freedom is americans retured in 1945.
